legalization of marijunana nationwide

I believe that the national legalization of marijuana would benefit the economy and help the crime rate decrease.
the legalization of Marijuana would be an evolutionary step in our country that would help the government as well as the small communities.
marijuana being illegal in the united states is cheating the public of untapped potential, the legalization of marijuana would help benefit the economy and move the public in a safer direction.
I care about his topic because with all the drugs across the country marijuana is the safest and an alternative for alcohol as well and for someone who has knows people with marijuana related arrest and charges for it to be legal would remove that from their record. possession of a drug of this nature in large amounts is considered a felony in the state of PA and would also help set better regulations
others should care about this topic because you can never know who around you is on a marijuana ether for medical reasons or for recreational use and for it to be illegal could seriously ruin a persons life for a "drug" charge of this nature even though something like marijuana is less addictive than sugar and less likely to have a long term effect on the body than salt.
if you have ever tried or known someone who has consumed some sort of THC they are not dangerous they are not aggressive and in some stand points they are more productive. people in every walk of life consume THC because of how helpful it is for average people when it comes to stress eating disorders and things like anxiety it will help them in society situations.
personally: people need to educate themselves on marijuana or drugs alone, I believe people need to experience or at least talk to someone who does marijuana for a recreational belief. with the information people will learn more in 5 minutes then most will learn in days just reading about it.
Locally: people should talk to local police and councilmen to see there view on marijuana and how it is looked from there angle because understanding the law from there side will keep people safer and allow people more freedom under certain circumstances. people also need to set boundaries around kids so they can be protected from a substance like marijuana just how people are protected from alcohol being forced upon them a younger ages.
Nationally: the government should legalize Marijuana and tax which would allow a better regulation of marijuana across the nation.
Marijuana has been around for centuries and has been used by many types of people across the world from average joes, plumbers, and firemen to the president of the united states. But starting in the 60s the Marijuana scene to the US by storm it spread like wild fire across the country and the government had no clue what to do so they made it illegal altogether. But in recent history the US and other countries across the globe have done substantial amounts of research to learn as much as possible about this drug that could take a days stress away or fix a cancer patients eating habits in a few hours. But the US still has still not made legal nation wide for a fear of backlash and losing in the polls instead of taking a risk and seeing what the population thinks. a total of 65% of Americans have consumed some sort of THC in there life including Bill Clinton, George W Bush, and Barack Obama all leaders of the free world who smoked marijuana in a country where it is illegal

getting started

my artifact: Fight club

What im saying: telling about body issues as well as equal scenarios.

Artifact: it's a film about a man with insomnia and how he copes with it while eventually starting a fight club as well as an under ground organization to reset the worlds banks.

Quotes both my jean Killbourne .” Real sexiness has to do with vitality and what is most unique about each other, our confidence in what we have to offer the world. It’s not about what we buy”
“The image isn’t real: it’s artificial its constructed” these quotes are representive of body issues and how people deal with them through money or photo shop.

Fight Club

Fight Club is a movie that came out in the year 1999 that is about a character named the narrator who has come down with insomnia. He goes to see doctors and people just tell him he needs healthy natural sleep but he cant but he doesn't know why. so he starts to go to help group like groups about testicular cancer and groups about have parasites and other things after going to these meetings and crying he then can sleep. He than runs into two other Characters Tyler Durden and Marla Singer who we don't know much about just there names. the Narrator then becomes good friends with tyler they move in together and start a fight club  which a group that meets every Friday and they fight another member if the group for pure enjoyment. After a few weeks the group starts to get bigger and bigger and spread to other cities and things like that which people don't see coming. so Tyler starts what he calls project mayham which is just destruction of people everyday moral beliefs like fighting is bad and things like that. But it goes farther than that like destroying statues that show things that are bad from history or a piece of art that no one really understands. The movie goes on an entire hour about how people can tear down there own boundaries but only if they believe they can do so.

Video Games or Music

“The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.” This is relevant in the gaming industry with things towards females characters with all the objectify qualities that games show whether it be female characteristic or just being able to prostitute females. even though things are put into said games as voluntary things which things you do not have to do but there is certain people that will do said things for incentives like in Grand theft Auto where it gives you better endurance or XP in other games.
“[The Media] is about creating a certain environment of images that we grow up in and become used to. After a while these images begin to [slowly and cumulatively] shape what we know and what we understand about the world" Video Games are a major part of pop Culture and even though people don't play video games almost everyone has knowledge of some video game. most games today have a male protagonist who at some point most save the girl like in Mario or the game it self is related to protecting women or things of that manor. Society today I believe while yes society is wrong for doing such things but it is more of a traditional way of doing games it self and some games stray away from that which is good like gears of war which is a very gory masculine game has switched to a female character which I believe is a good move on the companies part. But I also don't Believe this is the biggest problem with the gaming community while it is a problem which should change there are more problem that could be effected by a change in culture like this from games such as Mario all the way to games such as resident evil and games in between.

Critque #3 bell hooks

Bells quote of believe is a very true remark in todays society because of how people were raised and brought up in the world to be followers and not leaders. When I look around I see people who are to far impacted and let chose for them pop culture because they wanna fit in or not be who they really can be because who they see them selves as who they believe they are. Hooks is trying to say that pop culture is not trying to evolve the thought of equality but put everyone into categories to the point where we almost in a sense are still in the same profiling society we always have been in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EP5aqAC8PPY

In Fight Club the whole movie is about how we can break the social norms and be free to do anything we want for the good of the people. The movie goes into a deeper and darker turn because it uses the people fear of being different and breaking rules that people have set to keep everyone down. So they essentially tear down these barriers and reset society so that everyone is almost equal but they do it on a wider scale and reset everyone on a monetary scale because money is one of the many things that keeps people above other people.

Critique #2 Kids Stuff

In the text about Doc Mcstuffins I read about how the show is the new way Disney is going to power people. In Doc Mcstuffins she is a doctor for toys and how she takes care of them and shows responsibility for how she does things in a business manner. the video about Disney goes into details about how their movies are very stereotypical towards how men are superior to women and that is wrong. The movies also shows the physical characteristics that women and men have making them seem more sexual. When it comes to female characters the curves of a female are often made bigger while the muscles on a male are often brought to unrealistic sizes. Writers Critique Disney by saying they are stepping in new directions by bring positive characters like Doc Mcstuffins to a show that bring a more positive spin on people. On the other side of the spectrum they are also saying Disney is a bad company for making the image of males and females unrealistic and that females are stronger than what movies make them seem. The messages that Disney shows are mixed but its the older movies that shows things like Gaston and the manly view of these characters. While Doc Mcstuffins could bring a new generations of power kids that learned a lot because of a more equal culture in the tv shows they watched as kids

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vclTyFhyLXQ

these clips of spongebob show how the males in the shows are the only ones who go out and have jobs. while most spongebob episodes when you see the main female character she is in her home almost always doing something for science. Also it shows the how society can sometimes view men as stupid because Patrick and spongebob are the dumber of characters while Sandy a female character is dedicated to science and facts.

Pop Culture Critique #1

In the world that we live in today everything is run by companies and big corporations that look to get a leg up on the competition. This is done in multiple ways like propaganda and subliminal messages that can almost convince someone that this is a product to die for. But the Industry does something that is never really brought into the lime light on a major scale as a bad thing and that is to demoralize women in Ads. While watching Killing Us Softly Advertising Image of Women, we explored the topic of how women are portrayed in the media. One of the major points used in the whole idea of perfection and that perfection can not really be reached. Well with computer editing and photo shop companies can edit pictures and do what ever they want so that the women, can be thinner, taller, have different hair such things like this to make her more sexual. Another example that is brought up is how today society is completely focused on the female breast and that we tend to objectify the female body and breast. I believe that this happens way to much in society and it is something that will not change due to the fact that people love sex appeal. A third type of way women are objectified is by actually being turned into objects whether it be a beer can or a type of slimmer bottle women are used to get a point across towards men.

this ad shows how even when it comes to something as running our country women are seen as lesser than man. this will change in society some day I just don't believe that day will be soon I think the culture in the world today is in a bad  place and will not be able to change from the place it is in for a long time.

alternative assingment

The topics that were explored through the two episodes that I watched were about Latinos and the police in the United States. I learned about the culture and styles of the Latinos in the east Los Angeles Area and how they live their life. I learned about how the police work in the Camden New Jersey area and how they approach every situation. Bell uses comedy to get the viewers to stay watching but also is available to make jokes with the people he is interviewing. the seriousness of the topics are nulled in a  manor of humor that still bring forward the racial topics and ideas practiced. The Latino stereotypes are brought to light but the culture that most people do not get to see like the music and art is relevant through the area.
The second episode about is the police and how they deal with stuff but they really don't start the episode targeting the wrong side of the police. the episode after they start to interview police as well as people in the area and the common people start to chew out the police. In the defense of the police the people don't give the police a chance to respond or defend them. The Police are not everywhere but they can only take a certain amount of calls with the amount of police officers they have and people can not always understand that.
The episodes are strongly related because the episodes interact between what people say and how they approach each other. The first episode is how the people believe they are profiled and that police are racist toward minorities in the Los Angeles area. While the second episode is the exact opposite of how everyone is against the police and that no one gives the police a chance if they have a problem. If people watched the show they would learn a lot about people and how each side see's everything it would have a positive effect on culture I believe.

Journal 5

In today's society there is a constant thought that maybe colored people could be doing something typical from there daily routine and all of a sudden there life changes due to some type of racist act. people live the same lives everyday and the fact that people live in the constant fear or prejudice that could effect the future. The fact that people of color are discriminated against and attacked in almost all walks of life is something that needs to change in society but can never be eradicated. Segregation is still prominent but some people don't even know they do whether they don't wanna talk to someone or fear them for some odd reason.
"I am afraid of cops like spiders are afraid of boots" this quote is a metaphor for a fear of living life everyday. This quote shows how bad it could people for who have done nothing wrong but are under association just because there are stereotypes that bring them down. My brothers are felons but they are not the same people they were but because they made mistakes when they were younger the rest of there adult lives.
"moms have porches so they can sit and wait" this quote is him saying how worried moms are about there children and that they have to wait some nights to know they make it home. This quote is a respect notion towards all moms out there who care about there children and the fact that teens and young adults are always being targeted and profiled. I relate to this because my mother used to wait up all night waiting for my brothers to never come home or get a call in the middle of the night that they are stuck in the drunk tank or need to be picked up from the hospital.

Image result for drug abuse
this photo is something that is relevant in my life because I know many people that have died due to over dosing. My family has very addictive genes my older brothers were all addicts at one point and they have helped themselves but they couldn't get help soon enough. I relate to  this picture because I always tell people to say no to drugs but just like this picture you can see it but the choice is really up to you to make.
So discrimination is something that people do a lot not always just towards people of color but to everyone they may not know. For example I know many of people who have not talked to someone or not excluded someone because the way they looked or acted. what I mean by this is people just assume things about people that are usually negative so that they have to go out of there way to get to know them. the people who are shy or don't wanna talk to people are the ones who assume the most because they believe everyone is against them or is not worth even associating with. I am a very talkative person and like to know who everyone is so that I know who to go to for different things. but I still believe I discriminate in different ways whether I assume something I don't know about someone or I stereotype someone because I don't wanna talk to or get to know them.

" I only found out about my blerd status in the past few years. I didn't choose it . it chose me. Well, actually, it sort of rose around me while I wasn't looking." This quote explains how he becomes what he is today and he doesn't really realize it until later in life. I relate to this in some way because I don't know what I really am viewed as in society right now, but in the future I will probably look back and realize where I fit into society. Where I want to see my self in society is probably different then where ill actually be or where I thought I was at the time.

"a new generation of black people who are cool with being nerdy." this quote shows how he is knowing about the change in the world and how he accepts that he apart of it. I want to be ahead of the curve when the world comes to changing because the next major change in the world could be anything so being on the upside is important. the world changes drastically every few years whether it's culture or people or problems but everything will change due to one major movement.

journal #3

I think people are over thinking the name aspect that someone's name is so important I don't believe a name is that important.
the names that are more common for African Americans were not a popular trend until 1980 which I didn't think name kids would a have a wave or trend.
the culture barrier they believe has an impact on the name we chose and how we act could effect our child's name

A name doesn't define who you are as a person what defines you as a person is what actions you make whether you decide to be a criminal or police officer its what think not what your named.
No I would never change my name I like my name its what they called my father and that's what they call me I don't think changing my name would have a direct impact on me. Things that can be tied to a bad name history like things you have done and mistakes you made will never be let go. Also stereotypes  about people with that name can have a negative impact and the way people see you.
I do agree with the authors choice to change there name because its almost like a banner or piece if clothing you wear you can always change It if you want to.

I'm From

I'm from sibling rivalries, and fighting
brotherly love , and respect
I'm from a place where all of that comes together
a place that everyone has, home
I'm from the place that everyone see's
but  that no body really pays attention to
I'm from the beaten up old house
the greatest trashed house of all
I'm from a family of many
a house hold of brothers, fathers and girlfriends present and future
I'm from a family that will accept everyone
the people old and the people new and everyone in between
I'm from a bad place with great people
a house that looks like it will fall apart at every party
I'm from the family tree where there is more welcome parties then going away
a family that is bad but full of great people
I'm from the house where you pass by and see everyone outside
the house with white chipped paint and covered in ivory
the house with everyone outside drinking, and smoking newports
I'm from the best house of all
but the house no one expects to see them selves at.

the house

I lived in a big white house picture the white house but on a hill it has the same white pillars out front and the look of complete abandonment out front. the drive way is long and almost straight up as you pull in the five minute climb begins till you reach the top. When you leave your car you can smell pie from the bakery down the street then you see the door beaten and off green with a missing window in the door. Open the door and you will see beat up wood floors and tons of cobwebs in every corner the wide open spaces with furniture spread out is the only way the room looks full. When you decide to take your first breath after walking inside you will taste the moisture on your tongue as the stiffness on the air makes your nose cringe.
what my home says about me is absolutely nothing cause the house I was raised in means nothing about the person I am today. The things that made me who I am today are the people that I grew up with and my parents no other impacts could have shaped me to be any better.
I believe that where we are from the actual place as nothing to do with how we are growing up and forming our own beliefs. the people around us are the more beneficial factor in how we form opinions like who to vote for what type of music we like and the choices we make. The perspective is in the eye of the beholder so people can have many types of perspectives on the same topic but the situation is seen differently from different people making a persons perspective different from mine just because the interpret the situation another way. The place where you come from can have an effect on the way you view the world around you coming from a richer more economic inclined area could make you see that culture as normal and people living under the poverty line could see that single child with two parents richer because he has two parents.

Jake Foust Introduction

My name is Jake Foust I come from a family of six, three older brothers and two younger brothers no sisters of any kind. I am a first generation high school graduate and first generation college student but my family is still fairly successful even with out the proper education but through life experience. my writing experience was fairly good I had good teachers to teach me a good habit or two so when I got to college I would have a decent time writing in harder courses. My goal for this is class is to be able to write a good paper or essay so when I get into a job in the future and have to fill out a report I will be great at it.  My second goal is to be a better at comprehending writing and reading so that when I get to a job where I need to be able to not just see what I'm reading but fully understand it. through this course I want to be a better at reading and comprehending through multiple peer edits and reading other peoples papers. Today critical thinking is super important because of everything kids are exposed too like social media and TV as well as video games. Critical thinking is what people need so that they can be able to think for themselves and be able to understand everything without being persuaded by pop culture. It also lets people voice an opinion that someone could feel very strongly about but might not being the popular opinion. My point of critical thinking is whether or not LeBron made the right choice in joining LA. I believe he made the right choice for his children and setting himself up for after basketball so that he can live a better life after basketball.
